February 16  7 pm  Public Forum:  We're All in the Same Boat: Storm Water and the Fox

On Thursday, February 16, from 7-8:30 Tara Neff from The Conservation Foundation will present a           public forum titled “Were All in the Same Boat: Storm Water and the Fox” hosted by the League of Women Voters Central Kane County at the Pottawatomie Community Center, 8 North, St. Charles.

Storm water has the potential of polluting the Fox River by carrying with it pesticides and other toxins. According to the EPA, “Stormwater runoff is a major cause of water pollution in urban areas (because it) carries trash, bacteria, heavy metals, and other pollutants from the urban landscape. Higher flows resulting from heavy rains also can cause erosion and flooding in urban streams, damaging habitat, property, and infrastructure.”The public is invited to join us to discover how cities in Kane County are dealing with storm water management, whether  they are using a green infrastructure,  how dams affect  our river systems, and steps we can take to protect our water resource quality.
